Nothing Phone Everything We Know So Far

Nothing is making a phone. Yes, it's not a rumor anymore; it's a reality now that the company named "Nothing" working on a new phone. Carl Pei himself showed the prototype of the phone to some industry experts in MWC 2022. So let's check what the things that are confirmed about the Nothing phone are.

Nothing Phone Prototype

Carl Pei, the CEO of Nothing Company, has gone to MWC 2022. MWC is a place where all the industry experts worldwide gather, so Carl Pei had a secret meeting with the industry experts, where Carl Pei showed his new phone to the experts, which indeed impressed them a lot. It was a prototype of the Nothing Phone. A prototype is something that a company makes for testing purposes or PVT or the production validation test where a company sees that is the product can be manufactured at a mass level. A prototype is not the final product, but the specifications and the features of the product are finalized. Some required changes are made in the future after testing the prototype, and then after that, the manufacturing of the final product takes place.

Nothing Phone Launch

There is a probability that the company could release their phone by the next month or by April end. We didn't have much information about how the smartphone will look, but one thing is confirmed it will come with a transparent design. You'll get to see a transparency design in the Nothing ear 1 earphones, and you'll also get to see a somewhat similar design in the Nothing Phone 1 as well. Well, one thing about the transparency design, it will not be anything new, early Xiaomi launched a phone by the name of Explorer Edition, which had a transparent back panel. Nubia also had some smartphones where you might have seen a transparent design phone. Now let's see how Nothing will turn this a level up.

Nothing is not aiming to cater to the mass audience; instead, they seek to cater to the tech enthusiasts. The founder of Nothing, Carl Pei, has tweeted "back on android," and under that, the official tweeter handle of Android and Qualcomm has replied. Definitely, they are meeting with Qualcomm executives, so it is confirmed that Android 12 will be coming out of the box, and it will come with a Qualcomm Processor.

The question might come to your mind: which Qualcomm processor they will be using in it, as we know that Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is very expensive and has heating issues with it. So will Nothing go for Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, or will they be going for any other processor? The Nothing phone 1 might not be a top-of-the-line premium ultra flagship phone like S22 Ultra, OnePlus 10 Pro, etc. All these phones come in a price range of 60,000 to 70,000, which most people could not afford or don't buy such phones, and Carl Pei knows this fact very well.

What could be the Nothing Phone

We think they might launch the phone at a price range of 20,000 to 40,000. They can give this phone a premium touch and provide the feature for the tech enthusiasts and make themselves look different from others. Within this price range, they might choose Snapdragon 888 or 870. Let's see what they'll be doing with it, but there are high chances that we'll get to see an 800 series processor in it. We are guessing that this will not be an ultra-premium phone, but it will be priced around 20,000 to 40,000 range, and best to best specifications will be given to it, and it will come with the best possible android. Nowadays any company can make a mobile phone, they just have to take components from outside, assemble them together and the mobile phone will be ready. The differentiating factor has ended here.

An excellent example of this will be earphones. Companies can manufacture earphones outside the country and bring them to India and sell them. They don't do much R&D on it. To make that segment unique, Nothing has adopted the transparent design, done a little tuning, and made it special.

So similarly, they might be doing something unique with the smartphone. So the transparent design of the phone might make it a little special from other phones, and another differentiating factor might be its android experience. We have information that it will be coming with Android 12 out of the box and Android 12's Material you can see in a significantly fewer number of phones. So if Nothing provides Material you with their phone and if they successfully give a better experience to the user, then it will be a great thing. It might come with a bigger battery, fast charging, etc. Nothing doesn't have its own fast charging technology, so they might adopt Quick charge 5 from Qualcomm.

With the coming time, everything will be finalized with the phone, and as soon as it goes into the production phase, the hype cycle should start, and now if they show the prototype, they will be showing it for feedback and suggestions. If all these things get finalized, we would have to see the teasers. After that, everyone can understand that the gap between the first tease and final launch will be somewhat around 20-30 days, and in that period, they will tease most of its key features one by one, and finally, it will be unveiled. Another thing to clear is that Nothing doesn't have any relationship with BBK and Xiaomi. It is entirely an independent company which is London based. Carl Pei was the co-founder of OnePlus, now he has resigned and now has a separate company.

Nothing will be the only company in the market. With Nothing, two more companies are ready to disrupt here. One of them is Osom. Osum is a separate company created by the ex-employees of  Andy Rubin's company named Essential. They are making phones using ceramic, titanium, stainless steel, etc. Meanwhile, HTC will also launch a new phone after many years, which will be related to the Metaverse.

Now we have to wait and see what will happen, what the final product Nothing will be making and how it will be different from other phones. Nowadays, the smartphone market is very much stagnant right now. Most companies are making more or less the same devices one after another, with slight changes like changes in the camera sensor or processor. Still, no one is trying something unique which will make them stand out from others. In that case, Nothing, Osum, HTC is doing something different from others.

Stay tuned to CERadar.
