What is NCAP? Safest Cars in India

What is NCAP in India

While buying a car what are the top 5 features you'll keep in mind? Hardly anyone will keep safety in the top 5 list. Well yes, 99 out of 100 people won't choose safety, but safety is the most important thing in a car. In India, it is more important to choose safety over anything, as the concentration is high in India and the roads are small in comparison with that, because of which many accidents take place here, and one of the biggest reasons for it is cars in India are not at all safe.

How to know if a car is safe or not? Well, there is an agency called NCAP or New Car Assessment Program. NCAP has many different chapters worldwide like, European NCAP, Latin NCAP, etc. Latin NCAP has the hardest tests among all these. We'll list down the top 5 safest cars of India but before that, we'll know about NCAP, that's how they find out that a car is safe. Basically, when a new car is launched, the brand sells a car to them, or they pick up a car from the batch for testing. For conducting one test, it takes 2-3 days, hardly the test takes 60 seconds to 3 minutes but it takes time for the preparation. NCAP stages the scenario, and sets up cameras, blocks with which are collision will take place and other monitoring systems to measure the amount of injury the person is having and not only these, in fact, they are seeing at which part of the body the person is getting injured. There are two categories for which they conduct the tests for is COT which is Child Occupant Protection and another is AOP which is Adult Occupant Protection. There are 3 - 4 different tests, one is a straight head-on collision at a specific speed of 64 kmph, after doing these test they measure are amount of injury the occupant had inside the car, and where they got injured then based on that they give ratings, and they test the base models of the cars. As per the Government standards, a car has to go through a front and side collision test at a speed of 50 kmph, and if it passes this test then it can be launched and if it cannot pass this test then it cannot even be launched in the market. So based on the Global NCAP, the top 5 safest cars in India are,
