Ola is recalling 1441 units of S1 Pro

Ola Electric has issued a recall for 1441 S1 Pro scooters that are suspected to be from the same batch as the one that recently caught fire. Ola Electric said in a statement that the recent fire disaster was an isolated incident and that the drive is part of a preventive step to avoid similar incidents in the future.

An Ola S1 Pro caught fire in Pune on March 26th. The scooter, which was parked on the side of the road at the time of the incident, began to emit smoke and was quickly engulfed in flames. People tried, but failed, to extinguish the fire using fire extinguishers.

The company stated its batteries comply with AIS 156, the country's most recent battery law, and ECE 136, the European standard, reiterating that customer safety is its top priority. The EV startup gave an update on the incident, saying that investigations are still ongoing and that preliminary assessments have found that the fire was an isolated event.

Following the recall, Ola will undertake a thorough diagnostic and health check before returning the scooters to their owners. Ola Electric was also in the news recently for an alleged failure of a regenerative braking system on one of their scooters, which resulted in a terrible accident.

Later, the company rejected the claims using onboard sensor data, claiming that the accident was caused by over-speeding and panic braking rather than any problems with its product.

Experts believe the move is in response to NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant's recommendation that firms recall batches linked to EV fires voluntarily. Ola Electric further stated that it actively supports the adoption of a world-class electric vehicle (EV) safety policy and standards framework in India to ensure high-quality goods and increase customer confidence.

Pure EV, based in Hyderabad, also issued a recall last week for 2,000 units of its ETRANCE+ and EPLUTO 7G electric scooters to check for imbalance issues in batteries and chargers, which were suspected to be the cause of an explosion on one of its scooters in Hyderabad, which claimed one life and injured two others.
